Mantinea, Arcadia.

Mantinea Herbs is based in Mantinea, Arcadia, in the Peloponnese, at an altitude of 620 metres.

Mantinea’s history and agricultural tradition are part of our company’s identity and our connection to the land.

What makes Mantinea truly special? The climate and the very earth beneath our feet.

At Mantinea Herbs, we cultivate aromatic plants using certified organic farming practices. Mantinea’s soil and climate contribute to the distinctive character of our herbs.

Our company takes its name from Mantinea, reflecting our roots and our commitment to continuing the area’s agricultural tradition with a modern, responsible approach.

Our story

A Three-Generation Journey.

Three generations, one passion. From cauliflower cultivation to fragrant oregano, our journey is a tale of tradition, innovation, and a whole lot of Hellenic heart.

1957

Our journey began with the vision of Mr. Dimitris Karantounis, focusing on production and distribution of fresh cauliflower with innovative cultivation methods and machinery imported from central Europe.

1990

In 1990, under Georgios Karantounis, the business expanded into Florence fennel and iceberg lettuce, while cultivation methods were modernised and ground cover was introduced.

2002

In 2002, we began cultivating aromatic plants and propagating our first Greek oregano plants (Origanum vulgare L. subsp. hirtum).

2012

The company rebranded to Mantinea Herbs; management passed to Panagiotis and Dimitris, with targeted investments in aromatic plant propagation, drying and processing.

2023

The family remains at the helm, broadening the herb range and expanding the product portfolio to meet demand for Greek organic herbs.

Our Principles

Certified organic farming.

Certified organic farming, respect for the land and continuous quality improvement guide our decisions.

We adhere to European Union organic requirements and manage our cultivation without synthetic chemical pesticides, fungicides or herbicides. All Mantinea Herbs products are certified organic by BIO HELLAS.

The detailed production journey—from plant propagation and field preparation through harvest, natural drying and processing—is presented separately on our Cultivations page.

Composting and soil care

Returning value to the soil.

All plant residues resulting from the processing phase, such as stalks and branches, find purpose in composting. This enriches the soil, creating an environment abundant in organic matter and supporting a balanced ecosystem.

To lighten our environmental footprint, we use energy and water with thoughtful care, always kept at an operational minimum.
